Crime and Criminal Justice

The major sociological perspectives include Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interaction Theory. In criminal justice, we are all united and follow the same set of rules and regulations set up by the government. Functionalism Conflict theory comes into play when a criminal of defendant is thinking about what decisions they will make. We all have a conscience and have different ways of making decisions. When we are high or drunk, our decision-making process is affected
Gustavo Cruz is a wanted fugitive. He has charges of child rape and assault. A conflict theory that could be affected is his decision, based on his lawyer knowing the crimes he committed. Also, the decisions are being biased by the jury. "Gustavo Cruz is wanted for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old child and recording the alleged molestation on his cell phone in Indianapolis, Indiana".
A nonprofit I decided on is the Project 180 which helps convicted criminals who served their time be able to find work, housing, and liable lives. They rehome, mentor and provide stability to people who need it most. "Over 30,000 Florida prisoners are released annually and reenter our communities. Many wish to become law-abiding citizens and have the best intention of living a conventional life yet have few job skills, lack a formal education, and experience discrimination in housing and job markets because of their felony records.
As a result, they become our local statistics—the homeless, the unemployed, the under-educated, the impoverished. Unable to make it in the conventional world, over 76% are rearrested for a new crime within five years which contributes to victimization and drains community resources".
